Sent on behalf of Ben Smith, AEL Employment SIG Convenor
Dear All,
AEL Training Seminar in London – 7 June 2013
As you may be aware, this year’s AEL Training Seminar will be held in London on 7 June (hosted by Charles Russell).
The suggested topic for the seminar (which will involve speakers from Corporate, Corporate Tax and Employment SIGs) is “Challenges of the Acquired Rights Directive and Transnational Legal Mergers”. As you will appreciate, this is a particularly relevant topic for our SIG and one in which we will be able to have a significant input.
Being from the host firm, my colleague Bob Mecrate-Butcher and I would be happy (and keen) to speak at the seminar but would obviously appreciate involvement from you all in relation to this and the specific detail of the topic. As such, I suggest we have a conference call at 10am GMT on Friday 22 March to discuss this. Su Rawlinson will send you an invitation with the dial in details, which I also detail below. I hope as many of you as possible can join that call and for those of you who cannot make this time, I will circulate a note detailing the content of the call afterwards.
Dial in details:
Number: 0800 279 8162 (UK only)
+44 (0) 20 7107 9462 (outside UK)
Participant code: 01 83 522#
I understand that the Corporate Tax SIG are preparing an initial draft of the case study and I will forward this to you at the start of next week for your consideration so that we can also discuss this on the call.
I would also propose that, as well as attending the seminar itself on 7 June, we make our own arrangements to meet and discuss issues as an SIG during that time. Perhaps we can discuss possible topics and arrangements for this on our call.
Networking opportunity
As a separate issue, we have recently been approached by a representative from the World Trade Group who are hosting a Pan European HR Forum in Berlin on 22-23 May 2013. I understand that the conference is attended by approximately 100 Heads of HR/HR Directors who have responsibility for HR across Europe.
As a network of European lawyers, we have been invited to attend this conference, which has the potential to be a good networking opportunity. Further details of what they could offer are set out in the attached email. I understand that one other international lawyers network (Multilaw) will also be in attendance at the conference.
I attach a link to their website, which gives more details as to the specific packages they offer and the cost of the same. Perhaps we can discuss this further on our call and whether there is any interest within the Employment SIG in getting involved in this opportunity.

Ben
